Most families throw out more food than they realize: banana peels, coffee grounds, the ends of a carrot. What if that "trash" could become the thing that makes your garden grow?

About the event
This August, we're kicking off our new monthly Family Workshop series with a hands-on session on home composting. You'll learn simple, low-effort ways to turn everyday waste — grass clippings, dry leaves, vegetable scraps — into something your soil (and your kids) will love.
In this hour, you'll:
Build a simple backyard compost station using materials you already have
Learn how worm castings work, using kitchen scraps on a tiny scale — perfect for apartments or small yards
Watch a live demo turning vegetable scraps into flavorful soup powder, so nothing goes to waste in the kitchen either
Leave with a plan you can actually start using that same week
