About the event
Bee Curious to Bee Keeper is a six-session, hands-on beekeeping course for adults with little or no experience. One Sunday morning a month, October through March, in the garden in Surfside. You'll suit up every single session. You'll light a smoker until it stops feeling like a stunt. You'll learn to find the queen, read a frame of brood the way a beekeeper reads it, spot trouble before it becomes a lost colony, and by March stand in front of an open hive and know what you're looking at.
This is not a lecture series with a hive at the end. Roughly 40% of each session is teaching and 60% is your hands in the hive.
It's also built specifically for South Florida. Most beekeeping instruction in this country assumes a northern winter hives that shut down in November and wake up in April. Ours don't. Our bees forage year-round, swarm…
